I came across this verse in my reading this morning and was struck by the simplicity of this awesome statement. There are a dozen analogies that could be pulled out here, but the simple fact is that when we fix our eyes on Jesus, when we are steadfast in our devotion to our Heavenly Father, He will faithfully guide and protect us.
I like the imagery that is conjured up of getting one's feet stuck in a net. It reminds me of one of the children's play areas at Sea World in San Antonio. It was a favorite of my son, Tyler. Imagine a playground so big that even an adult is in awe of its size. There were places to climb, sandboxes to play in, tunnels to crawl through, and more. One of the climbing obstacles (or "opticals" as Tyler calls them), is a large net that stretches dozens of feet from the ground to the top. It is made for tiny feet, so the holes are not too big and the chances of a little one falling are zero. However, little feet can get stuck as was the case with my son on one of his first attempts. Due to his fear, I climbed with him so that he would have the confidence to make it to the top. He insisted that I stay with him as we made the journey. With his eyes fixed on me, resting sure in the promise that I would protect him, he journied to the top of the net and declared great victory.
You and I can journey to the top of that net with the promise that our Father will guide and protect us as well. We will declare great victory in His Name when we reach that mountaintop!
