Years ago we used to sing a worship song called "Step by Step," and the lyric said "Step by step, You lead me, and I will follow You all of my days." The song is a kind of dedication or commitment made by a follower of Jesus to do just that: follow Him!

When I came across this verse in my daily reading, I read past it and then I stopped. I circled back around and read it again. And again. And again.
As of late, I have found myself asking "Why?" over a number of issues and challenges I am facing, both personally and professionally. In my flesh, I often try to find my own solution to the problems I come across and I allow my mind and my spirit to race with anxiety from time to time.
The problem is that no matter how much my mind and spirit race, the nagging question of "Why?" still lingers. It is only in the stillness, in the quiet, in the moments of complete and total surrendered obedience that it becomes clear.
If I am obediently following God (step by step), and I am trusting Him to direct my steps, then there is no need for me to fully understand and be able to answer the "Why?" question. Will I ever be able to answer the question? Perhaps. But if I am not able to answer the question, God still asks me to be obedient and to walk with Him, step by step.
"Oh God, you are my God and I will ever praise you. I will seek you in the morning, and I will learn to walk in Your ways. And step by step, You'll lead me, and I will follow You all of my days."
